Forum: “Precision Agricolture. For regional competitiveness and environmental sustainability”

17 February – 5.00 p.m. (Dubai time) – 2.00 p.m. (Italian time) – Amphitheatre, Italy Pavilion

On 17 February at 5 p.m. (Dubai time) – 2 p.m. (Italian time) there will be an international forum organised by the Lazio Region at the Amphitheatre of the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, entitled “Precision Agriculture. For the competitiveness of the territory and environmental sustainability“.

The Agrifood sector accounts for 3% of the regional economy of Lazio, has an annual turnover of 6.3 billion euros and contributes 6% of national Agrifood. In Lazio there are 3,400 companies, universities and research centre that contribute to making the Agrifood supply chain one of the Region’s excellences. It is important to support the supply chain’s growth and competitiveness through technological innovation and digital transformation tools.

During the Forum the theme of “precision agriculture” and its relative applications will be developed, including new space technologies for Earth observation which allow the monitoring and optimisation of the use of resources and a more sustainable management of land and crop.

The meeting is organized in collaboration with University of Tuscia, Ismea and e-Geos (a subsidiary of the Leonardo Group and a shareholder of the Italian Space Agency).

Among the goals of the European Green Deal to protect, conserve and enhance the EU’s natural capital and safeguard the health and well-being of citizens from environmental risks and their consequences, there is the creation of a fair, healthy and environmentally friendly food system, according to the ‘Farm-to-Fork’ approach set out in the EU’s Green Deal strategy.
To achieve this goal, the European Commission envisages the use of a set of sustainable practices such as: more stringent rules in the field of animals’ wellbeing, organic farming, agroecology, agri-silviculture, and precision farming. The new technologies have and will continue to have a great influence on agricultural production and distribution and on citizen-consumers’ lifestyles.
