The Italy Pavilion is among the top 5 for visits, out of 192 on the site. In less than three months it has welcomed 620,000 visitors, according to the commissioner Paolo Glisenti. “We are satisfied – said Glisenti – the Italian Pavilion has become a point of reference and listening at international level, with its 500 events that will be held in these six months. In addition, do not forget that to the visitors in presence we must add 6 million virtual visitors“.
The success of the Italian Pavilion is not only in the numbers, but also in the recognition that comes from the organizers who, through the Authorities of the Arab Emirates, have submitted a formal request to our government to be able to keep the pavilion intact at the end of the Expo and, in the ongoing dialogue with Rome, two projects of preparation for the future are being discussed.
The Pavilion could house a centre for advanced training in the recovery and restoration of works of art or archaeological assets damaged in war zones or after natural disasters. With the hypothesis of being able to reproduce them digitally when physical recovery is not possible, with the same techniques used to create the “double” of Michelangelo’s David, which is now one of the main attractions and the star of the latest Expo 2020 Dubai promotional campaign.
But there is also talk of creating an Arab-Mediterranean campus for students: training is in fact one of the main points of Italian participation in Expo, as evidenced by the 70 Italian university students who guide visitors inside the Pavilion.
