United Arab Emirates: The Inbound and Outbound Tourism Industry
Focus on Tourism and Local Area Marketing
The sixth session of “Information and Training 4.0” of Lazio Region took place on Wednesday 28 April. The focus was on tourism and local area marketing.
This digital meeting was attended by the Regional Minister for Tourism, Local Organisations, Urban Safety, Local Police Corps and Administrative Simplification of Lazio Valentina Corrado. In her words Dubai opens up a unique window for the internationalisation process of our country as well as a new beginning for the Made in Italy brand. Michelangelo’s David is an important symbol encapsulating the beauty of the whole of Italy, the Renaissance and at the same time technological innovation. The latter is in fact the secret behind this perfect reproduction. It is an ideal bridge between memory and the future, new frontiers and new markets. Expo2020 is an unrepeatable experience for Lazio Region as well. We will be represented by our enterprises, innovative startups, research centres and our prestigious universities. Our competitive advantage is of course the presence of Rome, which attracts tourists the world over, and by a historical, artistic and natural heritage which we wish to promote and give value to. Expo2020 certainly represents one of the most important assets for inbound and outbound tourism. Lazio Region will be in Dubai showcasing its excellence and displaying all the required skills in order not to waste this opportunity to relaunch tourism.
In the last ten years tourism has become one of the pillars of the UAE economy and it contributes to 8.4% of GDP. This is high purchasing power tourism which is more about shopping than cultural assets, as proven by the fact that Dubai is the fifth city in the world in terms of concentration of fashion brands. Furthermore Dubai is set to become a catalyst for healthcare tourism both for its own citizens and for the entire Gulf. The Emirati tourist is a high-spending one. They travel with large and demanding families in search of high quality experiences ranging from hospitality and food – with special focus on Halal – to the presence of areas devoted to prayer.
In 2019 303.6k Italians visited the UAE, for a total of 2.4mln nights and a total expenditure of around €339mln.
