The recent regional mission to the Emirates exhibition has further consolidated Lazio’s position on the Arab markets, opening new scenarios of collaboration thanks to the opportunities offered by precision agriculture. The mission presented the volume “Lazio at Expo Dubai 2020”, with the aim of strengthening the relationship between our territory, with its excellence in research and production, and the economic system of the United Arab Emirates.
Lazio’s latest mission, in order of time, to Expo 2020 Dubai experienced two significant moments for the consolidation of the relationship established in recent months between the Region and the UAE, through two strategic meetings for the positioning of the regional territory in the Emirati panorama.
“The events organised by the Lazio Region at Expo 2020 Dubai in February confirmed the region’s leading role in promoting Lazio’s excellence in the field of scientific research, the best practices developed in the priority sectors of the Dubai Expo and the main projects of global interest related to the great economic and social challenges, under the banner of sustainability, which were narrated in the publication “Lazio at Expo Dubai 2020” recently presented in the UAE. The same Forum, held in the Italian Pavilion, on the theme of “Precision farming” was a success in terms of content for having developed the theme on new space technologies for Earth observation that allow monitoring and optimising the use of resources and a more sustainable management of land and crops. Once again, Lazio’s excellence has been shared by the Region in the international context of the Expo in Dubai: this was an opportunity to represent and publicise the most innovative things that are present in our region today and that contribute to the overall image of the Country System”. Quirino Briganti, “Expo 2020 Dubai” manager for the Lazio Region, commented.
The first event focused on ‘Precision Agriculture – For Territorial Competitiveness and Environmental Sustainability’. Organised by Lazio Innova in collaboration with Ismea (Institute of Services for the Agricultural Food Market), e-GEOS (a Telespazio Group company) and the University of Tuscia, the event was attended by Giuseppe Finocchiaro, Consul General in Dubai; Paolo Glisenti, Commissioner General of Italy at EXPO 2020 Dubai; Quirino Briganti, Head of Expo 2020 Dubai activities for the Lazio Region; Enrica Onorati, Regional Minister for Agriculture, Forestry, Promotion of the Food Chain and Culture, Equal Opportunities of Lazio; Alessandro Ruggieri, Professor of Technology, Innovation and Quality at the University of Tuscia in Viterbo; Laura De Gara, Professor of Plant Physiology and Dean of the Departmental Faculty of Science and Technology for Man and the Environment at the University Campus Biomedico in Rome; Lucio Baron, vice-president of Pure Harvest Smart Farms Strategy; Mario Bonaccorso, director of the Italian Circular Bioeconomy Cluster SPRING; Fabio Volpe, head of the optical and hyperspectral data product innovation unit of e-GEOS (a joint venture between Telespazio and the Italian Space Agency).
