The Italy Pavilion Supports the Bulgari Contemporary Art Award by Bulgari and Dubai Culture

“Bulgari Contemporary Art Award”: is the new award established by Bvlgari, in collaboration with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and with the support of the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, of which the leading Italian jewellery and luxury brand is a sponsor.

The annual prize devoted to contemporary art aims to be an innovative platform to support local talent in the journey towards Expo 2020 Dubai whose theme is Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. It will offer the opportunity to express creatively how beauty unites people and how cities such as Dubai and Rome are linked by beauty and innovation.

Categories and nominees
The Bulgari Contemporary Art Award features three categories in the field of visual arts: drawing and painting, photography, sculpture. There are four assessment criteria: candidates must belong to the “talent pool” of the Culture and Arts Authority of Dubai; be residents or citizens of the UAE; the works submitted must have been especially created for the award; they must feature colour in order to express how “beauty unites people”.
Dubai Culture will select three to five candidates for each category. The artists will be invited to attend conferences and inspiration workshops online, and they will be presented to Bulgari, the authority on coloured gemstones. They will be introduced to Bulgari’s vision and artisan art form, so renowned for the creation of unique colour combinations. The deadline to present the works is mid-December 2021 and the winner will be announced at the beginning of February 2022.

Jury and Prizes
The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges which includes specialised experts from Dubai Culture and Bulgari along with third parties selected by the two promoters. The winning piece will be exhibited at the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2020 and the winner will have the opportunity to discover Rome “through the eyes of Bulgari” on a week-long trip which will include visits to DOMUS, design centres, workshops, historical sites and exclusive cultural locations.
