On the occasion of Lazio Region‘s mission to Expo Dubai 2020, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Lazio Innova and the Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP) to support the internationalisation activities of Lazio companies in Arab countries.
This is a functional agreement for the support of innovation, research and the world of production, in line with the objectives of the Universal Exhibition of the Emirates and consistent with what the Lazio Region is putting in place to support local companies that want to enter, in particular, the Arab markets.
“This is an important agreement that allows the excellences of our territory to expand their range of action and increase the international dimension of Lazio’s research and innovation ecosystem,” stated Paolo Orneli, Regional Minister for Economic Development, Trade and Crafts, Research, Startups and Innovation of Lazio.
According to SRTIP CEO Hussain Al Mahmoudi, there are several opportunities for Italian companies and research institutions in the UAE, particularly in the Technology Park: “Italy has a great history in the field of technology. We can offer a platform for Lazio’s technologies and for companies that intend to enter the Middle Eastern market”.
The Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park is a very important reality on the innovation scene and a centre of excellence that connects 22 universities, with over 70,000 students and 2,000 PhDs, whose objectives include the development of a “triple helix” model of innovative processes between universities, research centres, government and companies.
The agreement follows on from the meeting held last September in Rome, at the Lazio Innova headquarters, at which topics related to big data and tools to support the business world and research were discussed, as a strategic lever to promote innovation, start-ups and innovative SMEs.
In this context, the memorandum of understanding signed today by the CEO of SRTIP, Hussain Al Mahmoudi, and the President of Lazio Innova, Nicola Tasco, sanctions the birth of a collaboration and synergy between the two entities, aimed at exploring new opportunities for collaboration in the field of innovation, sustainability and open innovation, in an exchange of information in sectors of mutual interest to spread Made in Italy in the Arabian peninsula.
“Our aim – underlined Nicola Tasco, President of Lazio Innova – is to support, also through important international agreements, innovation in the world of production and the birth and development of new business ideas, which would otherwise remain excluded from the market. In the regional Active Spaces we offer an articulated and integrated system of services, also in digital mode, including laboratories for the establishment and acceleration of entrepreneurial projects; talent working spaces, for co-designing, where talents and entrepreneurial teams can meet on a daily basis with tutors, mentors and coaches; and the FabLab Lazio, a shared space, equipped with innovative equipment and technologies”.
