Our Art and Metropolitan cities will be able to exhibit and engage during Expo 2020 Dubai from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. On 31 October ANCI organised a special event devoted to the concept of beauty interpreted as capability, innovation and a vehicle fostering knowledge. all this will take place at the Italy Pavilion of Expo 2020. Mayors will take centre stage and will have the opportunity to promote sustainability experiences taking place in their areas, be it art towns or metropolitan agglomerates.
The initiative was described during a press conference attended by Antonio Decaro, mayor of Bari and President of National ANCI chapter and Paolo Glisenti, Commissioner General for the participation of Italy to Expo 2020 Dubai.
The projects to be presented on 31 October 2021 at the Italy Pavilion will connect around the main theme of urban regeneration, a phenomenon linked to the topic of urbanisation, mobility and digitalisation as well as to culture and art as regenerative factors. This week-long exploration focussed on the many issues linked to the outlook for urban and rural development follows a meeting of the network of European Capitals of Culture on 30 October, which will be chaired by Matera.
“I believe that Italian municipalities will represent the perfect showcase for EXPO Dubai. They will testify to Made-in-Italy beauty as bearer of stories, cultures, values, art and the future”, explains the President of ANCI Antonio Decaro. “Italian municipalities and cities can fully represent the desire and ability of our country to start again through our centres of excellence. From north to south the Italian cities network represents the backbone which the country can rely on to stand up once more following this time of darkness and closure. We are stewards of Italian beauty. These range from artistic to architectural and religious heritage, not forgetting our unique wealth in landscape, which is still an asset for many small villages. We are the centres where public expenditure is most concentrated and where our institutions are working on the most important programme of urban regeneration in the last fifty years. This is why – concludes Decaro – we believe that the Expo Dubai global showcase opportunity will be a springboard for municipalities both in terms of tourism promotion and for the chance to awaken institutional and economic synergies centred around technology, innovation and quality of life.“
“In the last week of October Italy will be able to gather the mayors of the Art and Metropolitan cities at Expo 2020 Dubai for an international debate on the great projects of urban regeneration” – highlights Paolo Glisenti, Commissioner General for the participation of Italy at Expo 2020 Dubai. “It will be a crucial “city diplomacy” event to discuss and cooperate on the post-pandemic regeneration of cities founded on culture, on new architecture and green building protocols, and on new infrastructural energy models which are more sustainable, innovative and resilient.“
