Blue Economy. From Subsistence to Innovation Poles. Focus on the Pontine Islands

Wednesday 30 March at 5.00 p.m. (Dubai time) – 3.00 p.m. (Italian time) will take place in the Amphitheatre of the Italy Pavilion, the Forum: BLUE ECONOMY. From Subsistence to Innovation Poles – Focus on the Pontine Islands organised by the Lazio Region.

The smaller islands, with their environmental, cultural and social heritage, represent one of those irreplaceable assets that help to build the Italian brand. This micro-world is forced to face the daily challenge of marginalisation due to its insular dimension, just think of the issue of schools, healthcare and maritime connections. These critical issues affect the quality of life of the inhabitants on a daily basis, often leading to depopulation. It is therefore a paradox that a strategic asset, which the world envies, is fighting for its very survival.

The Ponzian archipelago, due to its characteristics – the strong environmental component (just think of the Marine Reserve), the fragile hydrogeological balance (cliffs and tufa environment), the strong summer anthropization, the historical-archaeological and cultural presence, the critical points linked to the infrastructural endowment (e.g. water and electricity supply) – can become a laboratory for economic and social development, in a sustainable logic able to enhance these islands,

The meeting represents the first step towards the creation of a Blue Growth project park, to be developed in the Lazio island municipalities together with research organisations, start-ups and Italian and foreign players.
