Precious mosaics for the Italy Pavilion

Precious tesserae in gold leaf and Murano glass – thanks to the artisan prowess in mosaic art. The mosaics covering the Theatre of Memory area are produced in Sicis workshops in Ravenna. This is the spectacular “home” structure for the reproduction of Michelangelo’s David at the Italy Pavilion of Expo 2020 Dubai.

There will be starry skies as they appear in the Galla Placidia Mausoleum, whereas the walls surrounding the mezzanine will reproduce the drawings of the Palazzo dei Normanni and the Palatine Chapel in Palermo, a monument fusing elements and influences from diverse styles, religions and cultures. They will appear to visitors as soft fabric thanks to a specific patented compositional technique.

A work of art inside another, created with more than 2.6mln tesserae. Each single one has been produced and put in placed by hand by the mosaic masters within the Sicis workshop in Ravenna and then taken on location to be positioned in its final configuration.
